Timothy and June rent an apartment, and, at first, they cannot stand each other. But, they go along with the ruse, which results in them falling in love for real.

  Rita Hayworth plays the Greek Goddess Terpsichore who visits Earth in the human form of Kitty Pendleton when she learns that Broadway producer Danny Miller (Larry Parks) is putting on a musical satire about Greek goddesses. She comes to help with the show but ends up landing a role in the play. Now, she gets Danny to change the show from a satire into a "work of art." But, her ideas are not very good, and the show turns into a major flop, but our Greek goddess makes everything right. Remade as "Xanadu" in 1980.

  Just before his scheduled heavyweight championship fight, prizefighter Joe Pendleton (Robert Montgomery) dies in a plane crash. The celestial Mr. Jordan (Claude Rains) sends Joe's soul back to Earth in the body of Bruce Farnsworth whose wife Julia (Rita Johnson) and her lover Tony (John Emery) have plotted his demise. They do the evil deed, but Joe has taken over Farnsworth's body and leaves the scene. Now, Joe hires his manager Max Corkle (James Gleason) to get him in shape as a prizefighter. Joe meets Betty Logan (Evelyn Keyes) whose father was framed by Farnsworth, falls in love with her, and straightens out Farnsworth's debt to his investors. This inspires Julia and Tony to plot the killing of "Farnsworth" once again. The film received Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Actor, Director, and Supporting Actor (Gleason) and won Oscars for Writing (original story and screenplay).

Ruth yearns to be a writer, while Eileen is determined to find success on the stage. Ruth finds success in her field when she starts writing about her sister Eileen, and she finds love with magazine editor Robert Barker (Brian Aherne) who has taken an interest in helping both sisters succeed with their plans. Russell received an Oscar nomination for her performance. A musical version was made in 1955, which followed a Broadway musical remake.
