Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein wrote this musical especially for Julie Andrews, and it was performed live on TV to a record audience (for that time). (Andrews was also performing in "My Fair Lady" on Broadway at the time.) It is the rags-to-riches story of Cinderella who is oppressed by her mean-spirited stepmother (Ilka Chase) and stepsisters Portia and Joy (Kaye Ballard and Alice Ghostley) until she meets Prince Christopher (Jon Cypher).
