Based on Philip Roth's novel, this story involves Columbia University Professor David Kepesh's (Ben Kingsley) obsession with beautiful graduate student Consuela Castillo (Penelope Cruz) who is half his age. His friend George O'Hearn (Dennis Hopper) advises David to keep the relationship purely sexual–and to grow up. But David's insecurities take over, and his jealous beliefs that Consuela is cheating on him drive her away–at least for awhile.
