In 1342, the Warriors of Light signed a truce with the Warriors of Dark, and since that time the Light forces have ruled during the day, while the Dark forces govern the night. The Night Watch–clairvoyants and shape shifters–watches over the Light forces, and the Day Watch–vampires and sorcerers–watch the Dark forces. Now, in 2004, Anton (Konstantin Khabensky) has become a member of the Night Watch. He has discovered an ability to look into the future, becomes caught up with a prophesy about "The Great Other" who could give the Dark forces the upper hand, and determines to ensure the Dark forces will hold up their end of the deal.
