Meanwhile, the portrait is hidden away, but it shows Gray's face growing old and disfigured. He murders Hallward to ensure that his secret will not be told and then falls in love with Hallward's niece Gladys (Donna Reed). But, Gladys' ex-boyfriend David (Peter Lawford), whose Aunt Sibyl committed suicide when Gray betrayed her, is suspicious of Gray and sets out to reveal his true, evil nature.
