Brian MacLean (James Cagney) is a bush pilot in Canada during 1940 who runs a delivery service for adventurers way up north. Stimulated by hearing Winston Churchill's "we will not surrender" speech, Brian and his buddies join the Royal Canadian Air Force. There's lots of romance and humor but not much action.

This is an early film of Charles Dickens' classic that follows the life of orphan Pip (George P. Breakston as young Pip and Phillips Holmes as older Pip) who is the foster child of blacksmith Joe Gargery (Alan Hale) and his not-so-nice wife, Mrs. Joe (Rafaela Ottiano) who befriends and comes to the aid of escaped convict Magwitch (Henry Hull). Pip falls in love with his childhood friend Estrella (Jane Wyatt) who is being raised by the bitter Mrs. Havisham (Florence Reed) to have higher expectations for her life than those of Pip. Later, Pip gains wealth through the help of a mysterious benefactor who, it turns out, is Magwitch repaying Pip for his friendship, and, by story's end, Pip is doing well in the Victorian world of the social elite.

A case of mistaken identity results in a very funny story as an illiterate stooge, Georgi (Danny Kaye), is wrongly identified as a man of power in the government. When he arrives in their town, corrupt town officers believe that Georgi is the Inspector General and grant him wishes and bribes to keep them from being arrested for stealing tax money. When the real Inspector General (Rhys Williams) arrives on the scene, the corruption is brought to an end, and Georgi is appointed the town's mayor–free to live happily ever after with the woman of his dreams, Leza (Barbara Bates). Songs include "The Gypsy Drinking Song."

In this film adaptation of Philip MacDonald's novel, the story involves a British patrol stranded in the Mesopotamia Desert during World War I. The men are trying, with great difficulty, to fend off Arab enemy forces when their commanding officer is killed. A sergeant (Victor McLaglen) takes over, but the patrol has no knowledge of its location–or even its mission–when they start their trek across the desert. They stumble onto an oasis where they hope to find rest, but snipers begin to pick off the men, and the religious ranting of Sanders (Boris Karloff) fills their ears. Finally, only two men remain alive–Sergeant Morelli (Wallace Ford) and Sanders–and the desperate fight for survival continues. Another John Ford masterpiece with interesting characters.

This is a good rendition of Alexandre Dumas' classic story of twin brothers (both played by Louis Hayward)–one becomes the King of France and the other is sprung from prison and raised by the Three Musketeers (Alan Hale, Miles Mander, and Bert Roach). The renegade brother is forced to wear an iron mask to hide the fact that he is the legitimate heir to the throne, else his brother would do him in. Elaborate adventure. Look for Peter Cushing as a messenger to the King in his first screen role.

Two boys meet–one is Prince Edward (Bobby Mauch), and the other is a poor boy from London's slums, Tom (Billy Mauch)–and are struck by their physical resemblance to each other. While playing, they exchange clothes and identities, and Edward is evicted from the palace by the Captain of the Guard (Alan Hale) who believes he is a pauper. Now, Tom is thought to be the Prince of Wales by everyone except the evil Earl of Hertford (Claude Rains) who uses the deception as his chance to control the throne. Meanwhile, Edward lives with Tom's father (Barton MacLane) until he is befriended by a soldier of fortune, Miles Hendon (Errol Flynn), who takes him to the palace where he proves his real identity in time to be crowned King of England. A great musical score backs up this film version of Mark Twain's story.
