Young Charlie (Josh Hutcherson) has just moved to Cleveland with his parents (Kate Jackson and Ted Shackelford) when Charlie finds "Annie," a thee-legged Springer Spaniel that has just had puppies. With help from the janitor (Stacy Keach), Charlie hides Annie and the puppies in the hospital where his parents work. But it doesn't take long for the dogs to start wandering around the hospital, and, miraculously, after encounters with the dogs, patients begin to heal. Of course, hospital rules do not allow dogs in patients' rooms, problems ensue, and the dogs are sent to an animal shelter. Now, a wealthy patient (Rue McClanahan) realizes that the dogs have cured her illness, and she ensures that the dogs are rescued, and new homes are found.
