But, Helene's memory is playing tricks on her, and Alphonse is not the way she remembered. Matters are further complicated by Helene's troubled stepson who suffers from his own memory problems–and then there is Alphonse's 20-year-old lover Francoise (Nita Klein). The use of montage, overlapping dialogue, and photography provide a haunting quality to this story of attempting to reach an accord between memories and the present.
