Six years later, the American Red Cross facilitates a reunion, and Suzanne (Kelly Endresz-Balanki) is brought to the U.S. where more problems ensue over the next nine years with a perplexed Suzanne failing to adapt to her new home and country. This is Suzanne's (now played by Scarlett Johansson) story as seen through her eyes as a 15-year-old who revisits Hungary in an attempt to come to terms with the circumstances of her life. An uplifting story for all ages.

Meanwhile, Jerzy is ending his affair with Hanna (Hanna Schygulla) whose husband just happens to own the hotel where Jerzy's cast and crew are staying. And then there is his other affair with a factory worker Isabelle (Isabelle Huppert) who is trying to unionize her fellow workers. And Jerzy still wonders why there must be a story.
