  Following the first penis transplant, the recipient, Edwin Anthony (Hywel Bennett), names it "Percy." Edwin goes through an identity crisis, and, to solve his problem, he determines to gain knowledge about the donor. The donor was killed in an accident, and Edwin investigates his life and many loves–including Helga (Elke Sommer) and Dorothy (Britt Ekland). There is a sequel: "Percy's Progress."

  The generation gap of the Crompton family in Lancashire is presented through the eyes of both parents and children when young Hilda (Susan George) refuses to eat her herring and her father Rafe (James Mason) becomes irate. Because of Hilda's behavior, Rafe begins to serve her herring every day at tea time. Rafe's wife Daisy (Diana Coupland) is so upset with his behavior that she tries to get money for Hilda to move away to London. Rafe is also upset when his daughter Florence (Hannah Gordon) falls in love. And the problems continue as Rafe is determined to rule his household.
