  Travis Holloway (Courtney B. Vance) is a Black soldier stationed in England during World War II. Travis begins an affair with a White married woman, Maggie Leyland (Kerry Fox). When her husband Edward (Ciaran Hinds) returns from the warfront, the affair is discovered. Edward accuses Travis of rape–a crime punishable by hanging–and Travis finds himself on trial for his life because of racial bigotry.

  William Shakespeare's play is again brought to the screen–this time transplanted from the Forest of Arden to 19th-century Japan. Traveling with her are her cousin Celia (Romola Garai) and the court jester Touchstone (Alfred Molina). Along the way, she runs into the man she loves, Orlando (David Oyelowo). Now, Rosalind uses her disguise as Ganymede to test Orlando's love.

Accompanied by Sergeant Norton (Adrian Lester) and his military squad of tanks and grenades, Major Sinclair and her group enter the area that has been quarantined for thirty years. They find hungry and angry survivors–and the nightmare begins.

Will these four mismatched people find the steps necessary to help themselves find new beginnings?
