Set in Wales during 1911, this is the story of an illicit romance involving a young Jew, Solomon (Ioan Gruffudd), and a Protestant, Gaenor (Nia Roberts), whose affair leads to pregnancy. At a time when anti-Jewish riots were commonplace, this mixed-ethnic pairing leads to nothing but problems. This film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Film.
