The 1950s are recreated well, complete with jukeboxes and music of the era.

 "Top Gun" (Tom Cruise) tactics have moved from the air to the racetrack in this fast-paced film about a young rookie who tries to unseat the champion. Cole Trickle (Cruise) is discovered by businessman Tim Daland (Randy Quaid) who commissions former stock-car racer Harry Hogge (Robert Duvall) to build a car and then hires Cole to drive it. Cole wins the respect of Hogge who teaches him the intricacies of winning on the stock car circuit. But, a crash lands Cole in the hospital with his rival Rowdy Burns (Michael Rooker), and Cole and Rowdy now become friends after Rowdy's injuries force him to bow out of racing. At the same time, Cole is attracted to his doctor, Claire Lewicki (Nicole Kidman), who gives him the courage to race again.

Edward is attracted to Peg's daughter Kim (Winona Ryder) whose boyfriend Jim (Anthony Michael Hall) is a bully. But, Edward's happiness proves short-lived when he is accused of a crime, and only Peg and Kim rise to his defense.

Only after Daphne becomes pregnant does Duffy realize how much Meg means to him.

A psychic (Whoopi Goldberg) helps him communicate with the living to find out who wanted the computer password. A blockbuster movie that was popular at theaters. Whoopi won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress; the film also won for Best Writing and was nominated for three others, including Best Picture.

Soon after Hamlet's father dies, his mother, Queen Gertrude (Glenn Close) marries her brother-in-law Claudius (Alan Bates). When his father's ghost (Paul Schofield) appears, he tells Hamlet that it was Claudius who killed him and orders Hamlet to avenge his murder. Hamlet fakes madness to avoid suspicion, and the death toll rises. Victims include Claudius, Hamlet's friends and family, and even Hamlet. A very good remake of the Shakespeare classic.

At the same time, Charlotte falls in love, from afar, with Joe (Michael Schoeffling) but finds confusion setting in and prays daily to keep her religious fervor.

She does and heads back to headquarters where she is told she has graduated. Thus begins her double life, but she is torn between this new life and leading a normal one. Remade in 1993 as "Point of No Return."

But, when Christine falls in love with the arrogant Count De Chagny (Adam Storke), Erik seeks vengeance as the masked Phantom.

Veronika wins a singing competition, and later is scheduled to perform with a symphony. But on the night of her performance, she suffers a heart attack and dies. Now, the scene shifts to Veronique who gives up her singing ambitions and becomes a school teacher–as if she unconsciously learned from Veronika's mistakes.

Jack has been depressed since the mass murders and has been living off his girlfriend Anne Napolitano (Mercedes Ruehl). He believes that helping Parry will pull him out of his depression, comes to Parry's aid, and the search is on. Ruehl won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress. Several nominations were also received, including Williams for Best Actor.
